"...An incessant painterly fire burns in Daniel Grüttner's paintings. The painting process seems to come to a rest, to the end point, only with difficulty. Brushes and lines interpenetrate again and again, seeming to wrestle with each other in their unrestrained ductus. At times, a narrow repertoire of symbolic forms, of banal everyday things from nails to tubes, is woven into the painterly field like barbs, without there ever being a story to tell. The concept of these paintings is their consistent freedom. Daniel Grüttner needs neither the idea of a theme nor a manner for his painting.
